Dave Jackson Rawson learned to play the Guitar, Mandolin, and Fiddle while growing up along Rush Creek in Garvin County, Oklahoma during the Great Depression. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, Dave enlisted in the Navy. He further honed his musical skills while stationed throughout the Pacific during World War II.  He returned home ready to acquire his college education.



Dave attended Oklahoma City University majoring in music.  He became a fluent piano, clarinet, and violin player and received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education. After his college years, Dave served as band director for various high schools across the state of Oklahoma. Dave earned his Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma while continuing his role as a band director.  After the end of the 1963 school year, Dave retired from his satisfying career of teaching young people the joys of music.

 
Dave & Wilma Rawson founded Rawson Music OKC in Grant Square Shopping Center on South Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City in June of 1963. Four successful years later Rawson Music was moved to a larger facility in Southwestern Plaza on South Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. In 1982 Rawson Music was moved to our current location at 7812 South Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. Dave retired from a second successful career on January 1, 1986 and passed the operation of Rawson Music OKC to his oldest Son, James Rawson.



Rawson Music has been in continuous operation since 1963 and is the Oldest Music and Guitar Store in the Oklahoma City metro area.  Throughout the past five decades Oklahoma City has experienced many music stores open and go out of business.  During this time, Rawson Music has continuously provided support for the musicians and students of the area.  Rawson Music continues to be committed to the traditions of our founder by providing face to face technical support, sales and instruction for all musicians.
